when i created the initial concepts for the map i decided to do a flat version and a more three dimensional version. ultimately they chose the three dimensional version to move forward with!
for this portion of my work with mtd they had a few specific requirements: one layer would be printed on seed paper, and one on vellum. i worked with their event coordinator, printers, and other 3rd party vendors to ensure i crafted compatible designs that crossed over function, elegance, and user experience. i created hand drawn graphic elements to capture the theme: riding on sunshine - as this was an event to showcase mtd's new zero emission buses. i proposed two versions as seen below:
mtd loved the bus graphics but asked for a different approach with the floral elements. they also asked if i would include a bee or other insects. i opted to use some floral elements that were based off atual local prairie grass and wildflowers. i also included a bee and a butterfly.
ultimately we ended up with the long bus, the prairie grass florals, and a simple and strait forward vellum layer. the final designs and a mockup are below:
